1 Introduction
Most of us can relate to the daily quandary of what we should wear. Most of the time, we take into consideration the weather, season, whether we are going to work or to a formal event or whether our circumstances are more casual. Colour, pattern, cut and fit also factor into our decisions on a regular basis.
The decision of what to wear hinges largely on physical, psychological and cultural factors. And yet, our spiritual research has shown that 80% of all our problems (http://www.spiritualresearchfoundation.org/articles/id/spiritualresearch/difficulties/rootcauses_unhappiness) in life are spiritual in nature. It should follow that our sartorial selections should also take the spiritual dimension into consideration. This is especially true, given that we usually wear any one garment for an extended period of time, that too, at extremely close quarters. SSRF has done research into the spiritual dimension, looking at how our clothes can and do affect us at a spiritual level.
2 Some details of the experiment
2.1 Duration of the experiment
14th January 2009 to 23rd February 2009
2.2 Age of the subjects
29 years to 55 years
2.3 Methodology
Please refer to our article Introduction to spiritual research using the electrosomatographic scanning technique
(http://www.spiritualresearchfoundation.org/articles/id/spiritualresearch/studies-with-biofeedback-and-other-equipment/esm/introduction) for details on the methodology.
The procedure of this experiment was slightly different from that described in our introductory article. We first asked all the seekers participating in this experiment to dress in a skirt and top. Then we recorded baseline readings corresponding to their Kundalini chakras (http://www.spiritualresearchfoundation.org/articles/id/spiritualresearch/difficulties/spiritualenergy/chakras) (Kund?alini chakras) by scanning using the DDFAO equipment.
We then asked each of them to wear a sari.

About three to five hours after wearing the sari we scanned the seekers using the DDFAO equipment. This reading is called D1. Then we repeated the scanning of each of the seekers at about 4 hour intervals till they reached the ‘Plateau’ stage. The plateau stage means that reading where the difference between the present and earlier reading of at least four chakras is not more than five units of the earlier reading. It signifies that the effect of the stimulus, in this case, that of wearing a sari, has stabilised.
Upon attaining the plateau stage, we asked the seekers to again wear a skirt and top. Then we went on scanning them at about 4 hour intervals till their readings returned to their respective baseline state. These readings were called A1, A2 etc.
To better understand the above procedure, please refer to the below table showing the scanning readings of a seeker Ms. AS.

In the above table, Reading ‘B’ is the baseline reading taken at the onset of the experiment when the seeker was wearing a skirt and a top.
‘D1’ and ‘D2’ are the readings taken upon wearing a sari.
We can see that at ‘D2’, the difference between the readings ‘D1’ and ‘D2’ of Ms. AS’s Muladhar, Swadhishthan, Manipur and Anahat showed a difference of not more than five units.
As Ms. AS reached the plateau stage at ‘D2’, we asked her to change again into a skirt and top.
‘A1’ to ‘A7’ are the readings after she wore a sari.
We can see that at ‘A7’, her readings are close to the baseline (‘B’) readings. Hence, the experiment was concluded.

4 Input from the subtle-knowledge section
We showed the above tables to the seekers from SSRF's subtle-knowledge section(http://spiritualresearchfoundation.org/articles/id/spiritualresearch/spiritualscience/sixthsense) having subtle-analysis ability.
(http://spiritualresearchfoundation.org/spiritualresearch/spiritualscience/sixthsense/steps_sixth_sense.php). We asked them questions on some of the observations and sought their help in understanding what was actually happening at the subtle level. Their input gave us insight into the reasons underlying the observations, and an understanding of the different variables deciding the outcome. The following were our questions and their answers.
4.1 Upper four chakras of the seeker without distress imbibed Sattva component rapidly, leading to an increase in their activity
Question: Why were the DDFAO readings corresponding to the upper four Kundalini chakras of the seeker without negative energy distress, Ms. AJ, suggestive of increased activity?
Subtle-knowledge section:
A sari is a Sattva-predominant, that is, a sattvik (sattvik) attire. Contact with the Sattva-predominant vibrations from the sari activated the Chetana (Chetana), that is, that part of the Divine consciousness that governs the physical and mental functions, and also activated the five vital energies http://www.spiritualresearchfoundation.org/articles/id/spiritualresearch/difficulties/spiritualenergy/vitalenergy of Ms. AJ. Hence, the Sattva component spread into her body in a short time.
The upper four Kundalini chakras are more sensitive to the Sattva component compared to the lower three chakras. That is why they imbibed the Sattva component in a short time and started storing it in the body. As this seeker is not affected by negative energies, there was no resistance to this process of imbibing. Hence, the Sattva component  concentrated rapidly in her upper four chakras, as a result of which they were activated.
This shows the importance of wearing a Sattva-predominant attire. Regular use of a Sattva-predominant attire can bring about a Sattva-predominant change in our temperament.
4.2 Concentration of the Tama component upon wearing a skirt leads to decreased activity of the upper four and the lower three chakras
Question: After changing the sari and wearing a skirt and top, why were the DDFAO readings corresponding to the upper four and the lower three Kundalini chakras of one out of the three seekers with negative energy distress and of the lone seeker without negative energy distress suggestive of decreased activity?
Subtle-knowledge section:
• Contact with a Tama-predominant element decreases the activity of the Kundalini chakras: Contact with a Tama-predominant element leads to concentration of the Tama component in the body. This leads to decreased activity of the chakras. This means our temperament becomes Tama-predominant.
• Spiritual science underlying the decreased activity of the upper and lower chakras upon wearing a skirt: A skirt is a Tama-predominant attire. Contact with the Tama component makes the human body devoid of Chetana, that is, devoid of the ability to imbibe the Sattva component. Contact with the Tama component led to concentration of the Tama component in the seekers’ bodies. This adversely affected the activity of their chakras.
o Seeker without negative energy distress: The flow of the Tama component in the body led to concentration of the distressing vibrations in her body. This started resisting the Sattva related activity going on through the medium of the chakras. Hence, her body started becoming devoid of the Sattva component. This led to a decrease in the activity of her chakras and they became passive. Constant contact with the Tama component influences our temperament adversely.
o Seekers with negative energy distress: Contact with the Tama-predominant skirt increased the existing negative energy distress further in these seekers. That is why their chakras became even more inactive.
This shows the importance of wearing Sattva-predominant attire.
4.3 Science underlying the increase in the activity of the lower three chakras upon wearing a sari in the case of seekers following the Path of Action
Question: After wearing a sari, why were the DDFAO readings corresponding to the lower three Kundalini chakras of one out of the three seekers with negative energy distress and of the lone seeker without negative energy distress suggestive of increased activity?
Subtle-knowledge section:
• Changes occur in those chakras of seekers that are active specifically for their path of spiritual practice: Changes are predominantly seen in those chakras that are active specifically for the path of spiritual practice, which depends on the spiritual constitution of the seeker. The lower three chakras of seekers following the path of Action are prompt in responding to the Sattva component. This is so because the lower three chakras predominantly provide the spiritual energy for physical actions. That is why upon wearing a sari, due to the effect of the Sattva-predominant waves emanating from it, the activity of the lower three chakras increased in these seekers who follow the path of Action.
4.4 Spiritual science underlying the longer duration of the effect of wearing a skirt in seekers with negative energy distress
Question: Why did the Kundalini chakras of Ms. DK and Ms. AS, both with negative energy distress, take longer to return to their baseline state upon wearing a skirt compared to when they wore a sari?
Subtle-knowledge section:
• Spiritual science underlying the longer duration of the effect of wearing a skirt on seekers with negative energy distress: The seekers in this category already had a greater subtle black energy covering on them. Wearing a skirt was conducive to the continued functioning of this black energy covering. That is why the effect of wearing a skirt lasted longer than that of wearing a sari.
• Effect of the spiritual pollution in the atmosphere at that point in time: When the atmosphere has a high proportion of the Raja-Tama component, the body also becomes polluted spiritually. In this state, if we wear an attire that imbibes and transmits the Tama component, its effects last longer.
• If the nature of the attire, the constitution and the state of the atmosphere are Sattva-predominant or Raja-Tama-predominant at that point in time, the effect of the element that is conducive and complementary to the atmosphere will last for a longer period.
4.5 Spiritual science underlying the dramatic decrease in the activity of the upper four Kundalini chakras
Question: Upon wearing a sari, the DDFAO readings corresponding to the upper four Kundalini chakras of all the seekers with negative energy distress were suggestive of decreased activity. However, in the case of Ms. AS, the decrease was much more marked compared to the others. (Please refer to the table under point 2.3.) What is the spiritual science underlying this?
Subtle-knowledge section:
• Reduction in the ability to function due to the effect of a Sattva-predominant element: Sattva-predominant elements like a sari have a spiritual healing effect on seekers with negative energy distress. As s result, the subtle black energy covering on them reduces. Generally, negative energies function comparatively more through those chakras where they have created black energy centres. Upon contact with a Sattva-predominant element, the Sattva component from that element gets transferred into the body. The black energy centres in the seekers get activated and start resisting the transfer of positive energy into the body. In this process, when the strength of these black energy centres reduces, their ability to function through the medium of distressing vibrations also reduces. This is reflected by the DDFAO equipment as decreased activity of these chakras.
• Sattva-predominance in the sari reduces the functioning of the mantrik (Mantrik) in the body of seekers: Wearing a sari increases the Sattva-predominance compared to wearing a skirt. As a result of wearing a sari, the subtle black energy covering on the chakras of all three distressed seekers was reduced. Hence, the chakras were not able to function with the help of distressing vibrations. In other words, the functioning of the mantrik (Subtle sorcerer from Hell) within their bodies was reduced.
• The mantrik possessing Ms. AS lost a significant amount of energy in his fight with the Sattva-predominant vibrations emanating from the sari. That is why the upper four chakras in her body showed highest proportion of decreased activity.
5 Conclusions
5.1 Benefit of the Sattva-predominance upon wearing a sari
• As the upper four chakras start imbibing and storing the Sattva component from it in the body, the activity of these chakras increases. As a result, the individual becomes Sattva-predominant.
• The activity of the lower three chakras increases in seekers without negative energy distress and those following the path of Action.
5.2 Detrimental effect of the Tama component in a skirt
• Concentration of the Tama component in the body: Contact with the Tama component from the skirt leads to its concentration in the body. This decreases the activity of the upper four chakras and the individual becomes Tama-predominant.
• Increase in the existing distress in seekers with negative energy distress decreases the activity of their lower chakras: Contact with the Tama-predominant skirt further increases the distress of individuals with negative energy distress. That is why the activity of their lower three chakras decreases further.
• Individuals with negative energy distress already have a high proportion of subtle covering of distressing vibrations. Wearing a skirt is complementary to sustaining this covering. Hence, the effect of wearing a skirt lasts longer on these individuals than that of wearing a sari.
6 Summary
As we can see, the ways in which we dress ourselves can have an effect on us at all levels. We could be covering ourselves not just physically, but spiritually, as well. To the same token, we could also be creating a spiritually healing and nurturing environment.
We can see the importance of not only knowing what clothes are helpful and harmful, but also of an activated sixth sense. Only with regular spiritual practice, (http://www.slideshare.net/SSRFINC/start-your-spiritual-journey-287836/) will our own sixth sense ability be developed and honed enough to guide our day-to-day decisions in a way that will benefit ourselves and our environment.
